ADCOLOR

ADCOLOR is an organization that focuses on championing diversity and inclusion within creative industries. For their 15th annual conference, Droga5 were tasked with creating and launching their newest platform.

Pull Up is a call to action for our communities and allies to mobilize together and show up for one another. It's to recognize that one group's struggles are all of our struggles. We love the meaning beyond just the words themselves. It’s part of a communal call-to-action that carries cultural significance.

For the conference, we worked with artists to create their visual interpretation of what Pull Up means to them and their community. We then turned their art into merch to sell at the conference.

THE ARTISTS

Vìctor Melendez

Vìctor is an art director, graphic designer and illustrator from Seattle, originally from Mexico City. He has been working with brands for over 15 years, in agencies, in-house studios and as a freelancer, doing everything from illustrations to logos to full advertising campaigns.

He chose to interpret “Pull Up” for his community as jVamos!". To him, this phrase is a rallying cry. It's what you say when a friend asks for help. When we come together, we're stronger.

Meeya Tjiang

Meeya is a visual designer and illustrator currently located in Washington DC. You can find Meeya enjoying spicy food, collecting graphic novels, and doodling every chance she has. Meeya strives to be a team player and is up for challenges thrown her way to thrive as a Deaf Asian female designer and illustrator.

In Meeya’s work, she chose to interpret “Pull Up” for her community as the ASL translation of “Unite. Advocate. Stand Up.”

Eunie Jang

Art Director and Designer Eunie Jang’s work is interpreted in a visual form of Konglish- the combination of Korean and English. The Korean translation of pull up says “lets go together, fighting!” where the Korean alphabets simultaneously spell out the English phrase. Konglish is commonly used within the Korean-American community, and “fighting” is a Korean word of support and encouragement.

Anu Manohar

Anu is a Visual Designer from Bangalore, India. She is passionate about helping brands communicate their story through strong effective visual systems. She believes in using an interdisciplaniry approach in design to create impactful outcomes.

She chose to interpret “Pull Up” for her community as “Satyagraha”, a Sanskrit word which means “nonviolent resistance”. It was a call to action during India’s freedom struggle.
